Naive materialists:

"Reality is made of matter..."

"Yup, yup, yup..."

The classical view of physics is based on a relative-interpretive view from within space-time. It puts the cart before the horse.

Materialism = An unsustainable future

The fantasy of naive materialism persists a century after quantum and relativity theory, for the same reason that the geocentric model persisted centuries after the heliocentric model was verified. Father of modern quantum theory, Max Plank, said, "new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.” [2]

Lesson 2: Scientific Materialism is a Subjective Interpretation of the Scientific Method
Scientific materialists claim that science proves that everything is made of stuff called "matter", and that matter is the only a real, tangible, hard fact of our existence reality.  Yet, this turns out to be just one of many interpretations of reality.  Quantum mechanics is a case in point. Quantum mechanics is the most successful scientific theory in history, but there are many
interpretations of what it is telling us about reality. We have to choose our interpretation wisely.

Lesson 3:  The Persistence of Naive Materialism

The reason that naive materialists choose a materialist interpretation of quantum theory and other branches of science is because thay can't wrap their heads around the single fact that "consciousness is the one thing in this universe that cannot be an illusion"[1] and "no evidence for consciousness exists in the physical world." [1]

Does Science Support Scientific Materialsm?

Lesson 1:  Science vs Scientific Materialism

The scientific method is a bottom-up approach that breaks observed phenomena down to its smallest components in an attempt to understand the whole. However, when we get to the quantum level, we realize that the smallest components, called particles, are actually just waves of energy, with no exact location in space, just a probability of being around at certain point in space and time. Solid "matter" literally disappears into empty space at the quantum level. [1]

Scientific materialism is a pervasive fairy tale we tell ourselves, which  says that everything is made of stuff called "matter", and that matter is the only a real, tangible, hard fact of our existence reality.

Materialism: a fractured fairy tale

Naive materialist:

"I am matter, therefore I think."

Lesson 4:  Materialism is Destroying Us

No form of materialism can tell us about consciousness, love and compassion.  That includes scientific materialism, scientism, physicalism, etc.  Therefore, materialism is no garrantor of a healthy, sustainable existence. Take a good look at how materialism has impacted our environment, our relationships,  our socio-economic-political situation, etc.  Our sanity and survival may depend on it.

The prevailing view of naive materialism is really that of the classical view of physics before the advent quantum and relativity. Relativity and quantum mechanics are now considered primary laws of nature, whereas classical physics is regarded as secondary. This is certainly the view held by most physicists— when they think as physicists. Einstein's critique of naive materialism was similar to Plank's when he said, "for us convinced physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is an illusion, although a persistent one."[3]
